Looking back on the sailing season 2010 it was a year with a lot of second place finishes. Out of the 17 events I came second in 8 of them! Fortunately it was also a year with two titles - winning the 6-meter European championship and the Rolex Swan 45 worlds championship. All in all 11 podium finishes out of 17 regattas. (read more..)
The seson was split between many different sailing programs. From an Irish maxi program, German ownerdriven one-design class to matchracing on the world match racing tour. It was a good experience to sail on the different teams and be challenged on how you contribute best to the team. Oftent the preparations were short, which makes it even more crusial to get things right the first time. To be competitive without the perfect preparation is actually a very satisfaing.
Without a comitment in the America's Cup or Volvo Ocean race, I had an opportunity to get to my roots and sail on the WorldMatch Race Tour. Together with Danish Jesper Radich we got an opportunity to sail four of the tour events and didn't hesitate to go. We have sailed against each other for many many years but never on the same team. It was fun to experience how easy it is to get together as a team, when you have the same idea and perspective on racing. From the first day the communication and teamwork clicked and we manage to make four podium finishes in a row with the serie 2nd, 2nd, 2nd and 3rd. With our comprimised preparations for the events it was fantastic to make the most consistent serie overall on the World Match Racing Tour. At the Monsoon Cup, which was the final event, I had the feeling that I should have prioritized it a bit more. When you are there you want to win, but in the beginning of the year it was ment as a practice platform to stay sharp.
